BBQ Cook-Off, Live Entertainment, Games, Refreshments, Crafts, Food, Motorcycle Show, something fun for everyone!

What a great combination – competition barbeque, family fun, and money for charity! Smokin’ in the Square is exactly that and you don’t want to miss … being a part of it.

Professional barbeque teams from around the U.S. will gather to compete at Smokin’ in the Square, the first local barbeque contest to be sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) in the new season. Professional teams will compete for prize money and points towards being the national barbeque team of the year. Local (back yard) barbeque enthusiasts also have a chance to compete for prize money and bragging rights in the Backyard and Tips-For-Taste competition. Smokin’ in the Square includes great family fun, entertainment, and food, but the bottom line is local charities are the big winners. We need your help to assure this event is a success so that we can continue this annual event organized by the Knights of Columbus Council 13277 to support local charities.

Guns and Hoses Kickball & BBQ Duel

The Pensacola Police Department and Smokin’ in the Square is hosting the Annual Guns vs Hoses, a day of competitive kickball and BBQ competition, on Sunday, March 18th starting at 8am. The games will be played at the beautiful Pensacola Blue Wahoo’s stadium in downtown Pensacola.

Outside of the stadium, visit the many displays of Police, Fire, and Rescue gear.

All efforts this year are supporting Rally Pensacola, a volunteer advocacy group whose mission is to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer research and provide support to families impacted in the Pensacola community through emergency funding.

The idea of a competitive BBQ was started in 2008 with a Backyard competition held on the festival grounds of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. It was a one day event and attracted 13 competitors. It was a new experience as a fund raiser but proceeds were small. In 2010, Smokin-in-the-Square was born and included professional teams and backyarders. Each year, this event has grown to where it is today with an average of 50 pro teams and 25 backyard teams. Each year, proceeds have increased from $4,000.00 given to charity in 2010 to $24,000.00 given to charity in 2015 with total charitable donations raised by this event exceeding $50,000.00. Our chairman and organizer, Ivan Delabruere, spends countless hours working with our core team planning each year’s event. Without the support of our members and our local sponsors, this would not be such a success. Our goal is bring this event to the level of raising $50,000.00 for charity by our 10th year, 2019.

We are glad to have some of our friends back from last year and some new ones for your entertainment this year!!
